LeMasterEDU was founded by Jonathan and Lauren LeMaster, two lifelong educators committed to empowering teachers and helping every student reach their full potential. Although this is where their journey as educators has led them, it’s far from where their story began.
Lauren LeMaster has spent more than a decade teaching elementary students and is a National Board Certified Teacher with an emphasis in literacy instruction. She has co-authored three elementary teacher guides for Literacy Geeks and was honored as her school’s Teacher of the Year.
Jonathan LeMaster has taught at the middle school, high school, and post-secondary levels, completing 20 years in the classroom. Throughout his career, Jonathan has authored AVID's Critical Reading: Close Reading Strategies for Expository Texts, created and authored AVID's AVID Weekly, and co-founded Literacy Geeks, LLC.
Together, Jonathan and Lauren share a deep passion for teaching and for supporting students in discovering their confidence and capability. With a combined 35 years of classroom experience, they’ve learned that effective teaching is responsive teaching—adapting to students’ needs, honoring their voices, and believing that every learner can succeed.
What is responsive teaching? To be responsive, you must build relationships with your students and react to the diverse social, emotional, and academic needs in the classroom. Equity is valued more than equality. Relationships come before content. And teachers use scaffolds to lift students up to their high expectations instead of scaffolding down.
Responsive teaching is driven by the belief that all students can succeed. To achieve this, teachers must teach directly to the students, cultures, attitudes, and beliefs in the classroom. Curriculum, instructional decisions, and teaching methods are thoughtfully planned so that students grow as people and as young scholars.
