LeMasterEDU was founded by Jonathan and Lauren LeMaster. Although this is where their journey as educators has taken them, it isn’t where their journey began.
Lauren has taught elementary school students for over a decade and has earned her National Board with an emphasis in literacy instruction. She has co-authored three elementary teacher guides for LiteracyTA, and last year, Lauren was awarded Teacher of the Year for her elementary school.
Jonathan has taught middle school, high school, and post-secondary. He just finished his 16th year as a classroom teacher. During his 16 years as an educator, Jonathan has written a close reading teacher guide and developed AVID Weekly for AVID, Inc., co-founded LiteracyTA, and started a podcast EDURecharge with a Martin Reisert—a California Teacher of the Year.
Deeply passionate about teaching and helping kids reach their greatest potential, Lauren and Jonathan are constantly perfecting their craft as teachers to ensure all of their students succeed. Lauren and Jonathan have learned over their combined 27 years of classroom instruction that effective teaching is responsive teaching.
What is responsive teaching? To be responsive, you must build relationships with your students and react to the diverse social, emotional, and academic needs in the classroom. Equity is valued more than equality. Relationships come before content. And teachers use scaffolds to lift students up to their high expectations instead of scaffolding down.
Responsive teaching is driven by the belief that all students can succeed. To achieve this, teachers must teach directly to the students, cultures, attitudes, and beliefs in the classroom. Curriculum, instructional decisions, and teaching methods are thoughtfully planned so that students grow as people and as young scholars.
